THE HEXHAM and Corbridge by-pass on the A69 in Northumberland was opened this week, removing a major bottleneck on the Newcastle to Carlisle route.
The 8'A mile (13.7 km) by-pass will relieve traffic in the towns of Hexham and Corbridge. It starts on the existing A69 west of Hexham, and passes to the north of both towns, rejoining the trunk road east of Corbridge.
The new road, which took two years to build, has dual two-lane carriageways.
