A new transport and servicing group has been formed by the amalgamation of three companies taken over by the Maxi Construction Group.

Caledonian Vehicle Delivery Service, Caledonian Carriers and the Character Motor Services all handle contracts from Volvo to deliver trucks and buses, and maintain the Volvo 24-hour vehicle offthe-road parts service.

Widening the net

THOMAS Meadows has added another East Anglian office to its network. The new base is at Parkeston Quay, Harwich and is the third office in the region to be opened in a year.

It will provide a monitoring service for groupage traffic between Europe and Scandinavia and the UK, moving via the usual Meadows services.

Meadows now has 30 offices spread across the UK to operate ocean groupage, full load container, TIR trailer and heavy lift shipment services.

Licensing review

THE Government is taking an "urgent" look at the 47-year-old licensing system operated by the Traffic Commissioners, Transport UnderSecretary of State Mr John Horam said in the Commons.
