MR. H. G. BAKER, traffic manager of United Automobile Services, Ltd., since 1946, has been appointed a director and general manager of the Brighton, Hove and District Omnibus Co., Ltd. He joined the Tilling concern in 1933 and was shortly transferred to their Brighton and Hove section. In 1945 he became assistant traffic manager of the West Yorkshire Road Car Co., Ltd., and a year later joined U.A.S.

MR. E. H. ErtwaRDEs, chairman and managing director of Lancashire United Transport, Ltd., and the South Lancashire Transport Co., is to retire at the end of March. He will be succeeded as general manager of both companies by MR. C. C. OAKHAM, at present chief engineer of Manchester Transport Department. Mr. Edwardes, who joined the company, then the South Lancashire Tramways Co., as resident engineer in 1902, was appointed general manager in 1911 and managing director in 1932. On the death of SIR ARTHUR STANLEY in 1947, he succeeded him as chairman.

MR. G. N. VANSFTTART has been elected chairman of Vauxhall Motors. Ltd., in succession to SIR CHARLES BARTLET1F, who has retired. MR. F. V. BARKER, factory manager has been elected to the board. Mr. Vansittart resumes a.position he had already held for six years. He became Vauxhall chairman in 1947, but relinquished this role in April, 1953, when he became chairman of General Motors, Ltd.-a position he will continue to occupy. Mr. Barker has been factory manager since June, 1953. He was production manager from 1942-1950. and assistant manager of the production engineering division from 1950-1953. MR. CHARLES ALEXANDER has been reappointed chairman of Aberdeen Sub-area of the Road Haulage Association and MR. I. ANDERSON, vicechairman.

M. L II..LINGWORTH, CLLR. T. EvERs and CLLR. S. TIFFANY have been appointed to membership of the Yorkshire Transport Users' Consultative Committee.

MR. M. M. TiMMINS and MR. R. G. HARRIS have been appointed to the mileage sales division of the Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Co. (Great Britain), Ltd, Mr. Timmins will cover the north and Mr. Harris the Midlands and south.

MR. H. G. MORLEY has relinquished the honorary secretaryship of the East Midlands Section of the Institute of Transport. Deputy general manager of Nottingham Transport Department, he became assistant secretary of the section on its formation in 1936 and honorary secretary in 1938. MR. S. G. RUSHTON, manager of the Nottingham branch of B.R.S. (Parcels), Ltd.. has succeeded Mr. Morley.

NEW UPHOLSTERY MATERIAL

A NEW upholstery fabric for In/passenger vehicles has been produced by E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Co., Inc., Wilmington, Delaware, U.S.A. Known as Fabrilite, it is a fabric-supported vinyl material that has been produced to retain flexibility over a wide temperature range. One of the textures in which it is available is an imitation tweed weave.
