Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Loads up to 6 metres wide are able to use the newly opened M6 Toll, using a special lane parallel to the standard toll station.

The M6 Toll, which opened ahead of schedule in early December, runs from Junction 4 on the M6 and rejoins the M6 at Junction 11a, so avoiding the most congested section of the M6 around Birmingham. There are 6 Toll Plazas, 2 on the main motorway and 4 on junctions, and vehicles pass through only one Toll Plaza per journey.

To ensure the Toll Plaza payment areas are as safe as possible, the width of the lanes is reduced as you approach the booths, which can only take vehicles or loads with a width of up to 2.9 metres. A special lane has therefore been provided, with a toll barrier to cater for wider vehicles. This is clearly signalled on the approach to the Toll Plazas.

Wide and abnormal load travel needs to be agreed in advance with the motorway operator, Midland Expressway, who levies a charge for using the M6 Toll. You may wish to consider opening an M6 Toll account. Applications for abnormal load movements should be sent to: Wide/Abnormal Loads Office Midland Expressway Ltd Operations Centre Express Way Weeford, Lichfield WS14 OPQ Fax: 01543 267005 Visit the website www.m6toll.co.uk or call the helpline 0870 850 6262 for further information.
