Alan Wilson, the man who did more than most to help put Transrent near the top of the trailer rental league, is seeking pastures new. Brian Weatherley reports.

TRANSRENT'S high-profile boss Alan Wilson is leaving the fastgrowing trailer rentalcold storage and transport finance company "to pursue other interests".

CM understands that Wilson has been involved in discussions with Transrent's venture capital backers. Aberdeen Murray Johnstone Private Equity and Penta Capital, which have bankrolled the company's expansion to the tune of £30m. Tom Hart takes over as Transrent Holdings' group MD with Mike Furnival as MD of the trailer rental arm. Keith Burnell continues as group commercial director.

Since 1998 Wilson and Burnell have built up Transrent to become number four in the UK trailer rental market, behind Hill Hire, Transamerica and TIP The company has concentrated on creating a high-spec trailer fleet to attract operators Last year it delivered a profit of £2.5m on a turnover of £23m and earlier this year Wilson told CM that profits were expected to grow to £3.5m on an improved turnover of £28m. Hart confirms: "There is no reason to believe that all the reasons for Transrent's success will not continue."

Other recent departures from Transrent include Tim Wilkins, special projects manager in charge ofTransrent's XL specialist equip ment division, and marketing manager Tracie Francis • Lex Transtleet has restructured its CV business by creating a new Commercial Fleet Division to offer contract hire, rental and managed services in a single operation. Lex says the move is in response to customer demand.

The new company will be headed up by Phil Wood. who previously ran lie rental and fleet management divisions.
