HYNDBURN & Rossen dale, 75 years of Municipal Operation, 1907-1982 (Omnibus Society, £2.40 post free) commemorates the 75th anniversary of the formation of bus services by Haslinden and Rawtenstall's Corporations.
The booklet recalls vividly, development from the early steam trams of 1886 and the electrification of tramways which followed in 1907. Detailed information and early photographs of the period, recall the early pioneering days of Princess Alice steam trams, solid tyred Leyland char-a-bancs and the Ryknield open top, doubledecked motor buses.
The evolution of the established routes between and beyond these three principalities is as interesting as the variety of vehicles which served its communities.
