THE Leyland Comet forward-control goods chassis, with certain modifications, is now available as the basis of a passenger vehicle for bus or coach bodies up to 27 ft. 6 in. long. The passenger chassis differs from the goods-vehicle range in having a longer frame and wheelbase, and passengertype road springs.

The wheelbase is 16 ft. II in., the overall chassis length being 26 ft. 10 in., yvith a width of 7 ft. 5 in. For export models the tyre size is 9.00-20 in. 10 ply, and for home use 8.25-20 in. 12-ply equipment is fitted. In its export form the chassis weighs 7,784 lb. and has a gross rating of 22,800 lb. The specification includes a 90 b.h.p, six-cylindered oil engine, dry-plate clutch and five-speed gearbox, twoleading-shoe brakes and Eaton 16,500type two-speed rear axle with three optional sets of ratios. A Leyland single-speed axle can . be fitted if desired. This has a standard ratio of 5.143 to 1, with alternative ratios of 4.625 and 6.167 to I.

A sub-cab structure, incorporating a full front extending up to windscreen height and embellished with a polished louvred radiator grille can be supplied by the manufacturers.
