do no more than 60 hours in a single week and 48 hours on average • Averages must be calculated over a 17-week period—or 26 weeks if workers agree to it
• Night workers are restricted to doing a maximum 10 hours in any 24-hour period
• Anything between midnight and 4am is classed as night work • Working time does not include breaks or periods of availability (PoAs) • PoAs are defined as waiting times during which a worker is able to start work or driving again on request. The regulations define a PoA as waiting time whose duration is generally known about in advance by the worker. If, for example, a driver is told to wait one hour and has to wait two hours, the second hour will count as working time • Working time records must be kept for at least two years
