Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I APPLAUD Robert Durward for his letter (CM 4 August). The major trade associations may not agree with his sentiments, but I do agree with Robert's thinking.

I have also read the Yardstick article"Don't let them run free" and found it very interesting. Jam pleased to see that Frank Stears. an operator from Faversham, in Kent, has commented on the present situation.

For those that are not aware, Frank was one of the people who led a very strong effort in the 2000 fuel tax protests from the southeast of England, encouraging dialogue between the RHA and the government in an attempt to resolve the issue on fuel tax.

At the end of the piece is a small article "You tell us... we tell the country-.We now have the opportunity to provide evidence of how excessively high fuel duty is, along with foreign trucks running through Great Britain untaxed and crippling the road haulage industry.

As part of the steering group for British Hauliers, I urge you strongly to join the survey team as suggested. By us all undertaking this survey, it will possibly affect the long-term manner in which fuel tax is administered to the road haulage industry in the future. It has been reported that road diesel in parts of the UK is in excess of £1.02 per litre or £4.64 per gallon on the forecourt pump.

Apathy is not an option; if you do not voice your opinion through this survey then we all deserve what our government in its infinite wisdom decides to level onus!
