vehicles over 3.5 tonnes in issue last year dropped by nearly 6,000 or 2% on 1992. And although London and South-east suffered the greatest drop in haulier numbers (1,375 fewer), this was only half the percentage drop suffered on average by the other regions. Applications for new operator licences dropped by 7%. In only two out of eight regions did the numbers of vehicles rise. Nationally, numbers of vehicles were down 5%.
