• Car transporter Walon is set to become the first haulier to operate from a 1,200 acre US air force base in Oxfordshire.
Walon is planning a multimillion pound investment in its 17th vehicle preparation centre at Upper Hey-ford, which should create around 60 jobs.
Cherwell District Council has granted it planning permission to operate from 90 acres of the site, despite concern from local residents about the 60 daily truck movements its presence could generate.
The Ministry of Defence is considering entering similar negotiations for rental contracts up to five years with other hauliers. However, hauliers interested in renting part of the site near J10 of the M40 would also have to win over the council. Contact the MoD on (0252) 348902.
