Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• With reference to the article (CM 4-10 August) concerning the conversion of the LT50 to a tractor unit, you raised a number of points which I feel require clarification.

Your article made reference to a recently-issued letter to all Volkswagen dealers on the subject of mini-artics. This letter advised all dealers to contact us prior to order acceptance for such a vehicle so that Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle Application Engineering can check the application of the vehicle and the conversion for suitability in the market place.

Our prime concerns for both articulated and drawbar vehicles are: 0 That the braking system is correctly specified for the application.

II That the frontal area of the bodywork is not too great to prevent the vehicle from performing to the operator's expectations and, of course, that gearbox and axle ratios are matched to the envisaged o ration.

That the proposed convertor of the vehicle is in possession of sufficient technical information to allow him to carry out the conversic to the standards expected of a Volkswagen product.

The above steps form part of the normal Volkswagen commitment to quality which may be applied to any conversion or body fitment onto a Volkswagen Commerci; Vehicle product and we feel sure that such controls can only benefit the end user of our products.
