• Overton of Wednesbury has redesigned the standard safety system for bus doors.
The system automatically opens the doors if a person or clothing gets trapped and activates a warning light and buzzer for the driver. It also features a device to prevent doors opening at speeds higher than 51an/h as well as equipment to prevent the bus moving from a bus stop with the doors open, and a passenger emergency door which does not affect the driver's controls.
Singapore Bus Service has bought 200 door kits and Overton plans to demonstrate the equipment soon to UK bus manufacturers and operators.
