• West Midlands Travel is investing heavily in a campaign to improve its public image.
It has ordered 150 doubledeck Metrobuses from MetroCarnmell Weymarni at a cost of £12.5m. The company has a new livery and £300,000 has been spent on matching uniforms. All bus drivers have been enrolled on customer care courses. WMT, which has 450 million passengers a year, is also looking to increase the frequency of its services.
West Midlands Travel says: "Since deregulation we have been building up the firm as a commercial concern. Now we have a secure base, we want to improve our public image and attract more passengers."
