Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

FROM October 1, employers who make workers redundant will be able to follow a simpler procedure. They will no longer be required to give details of rebate claims in advance.

Employment Secretary Tom King said the changes will mean less paperwork for employers.

At present employers who make people redundant have to give the Department of Employment details of the employees to be dismissed, the statutory redundancy payments they expect to be making two weeks in advance of the dismissals, and the rebate that they will be claiming. They must give three weeks' notice if more than 10 employees are involved.

Although there is now no need to inform the Department about the claim, employers must stick to all the other rules. Depending on the numbers of employees involved, the employer must gave the Department either 30 or 90 days' warning of redundancy and consult the appropriate trade union.
