Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I HAVE just read, with amazement, the letter from David Ian Armshaw of Sale, (CM July 28). He complains that he cannot pass the hgv test despite nearly two years of hgv driving. He states that the examiners are incompetent and the hgv test be scrapped. What a load of rubbish. If he can't get a full hgv licence after two years I suggest that his driving is not up to the required standard and should therefore seek expert advice as to whether he will ever be good enough to pass the test.

I am a great believer in driving tests and think that a refresher test should be made compulsory after a period of time. Driving any vehicle on the road is a great responsibility. A vehicle is a killer and the driver must realise what a potentially dangerous weapon he has in his hands.

I passed my hgv test, first time, eight years ago after 10 days training on an artic, then I realised I had a hell of a lot more to learn. I went on to get my psv licence and also took the IAM test in a car and lorry and the RoSPA league of Safe Drivers test in a car and lorry, now I am training for my motor cycle advanced.

I think every encouragement should be given to drivers by their firms to take these extra tests. It is an advantage to every one to have an experienced, well trained driver. MISS !LANA RICHARDS Staffordshire
