NEW BUS and coach registrations are running 100 behind last year's, according to Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders figures, and Leyland is bearing the brunt of the fall.
Sales for the first seven months of this year totalled 2,519, compared with 2,619 in the same period last year. Importers' sales climbed from 658 to 659, representing an increase from 25.1 per cent to 26.2 per cent of sales. For all of last year, imports represented 21.1 per cent of sales.
Leyland's market share has fallen from 46.3 per cent to 44.6 per cent, with volume down by 88 vehicles. Volvo is in second place with market share up from 13.2per cent to 14.8 per cent (British-built sales are down by four vehicles).
Metro-Cammell Weymann is third with its share up from 10 per cent to 11.2 per cent, and Bedford is fourth with a major recovery from 6.8 per cent to 10.6 per cent.
Bova-dominated "other imports" took 6.6 per cent (1983: 5.5. per cent), Daf 5.2 per cent (1983: 6.8 per cent); Hestair Dennis 3.1 per cent (1983: 3.8 per cent); Ford 1.4 per cent (1983: 5.9 per cent); Scania 1.3 per cent (1983: 1.4 per cent); "Other British" (mainly Quest 80) took 0.9 per cent (1983: nil), and MAN took 0.2 per cent (1983: 0.2 per cent).

The closing dates for applications are September 19 for winter permits and November 21 for summer 1985 permits.
