NATIONAL Freight Consortium member Cartransport has bought 18 Leyland T45 Roadtrain 1725 tractive units in an order worth £500,000.
They will be used to deliver Austin Rover cars from Longbridge and will operate from Cartransport's Birmingham depot.
The vehicles are powered by Rolls-Royce 265 engines and have Jennings Conversion sleeper cabs the same height as the Hoynor Mk VII semi-trailers which have been modified to carry nine cars compared to the previous eight.
Cartransport expects to complete negotiations soon for the next stage of its fleet investment programme which will see more Leyland tractive units going to its Cowley-based transporter fleet.
