TWO TOP-LEVEL appointments affecting General Motor's commercial vehicle operation worldwide have been announced by the multi-national corporation.

Charles Katko, GM vice-president, has been put in charge of the worldwide Truck and Bus Group, based at Pontiac, Michigan, USA. As group executive he reports to Donald Atwood, whom he succeeds. Mr Atwood vacated the post when he was made an executive vice-president on January 1 this year.

Mr Katko has been group executive of the corporation's Body Assembly Group and general manager of its Fisher Body Division. He is a graduate in industrial engineering from the General Motors Institute and has completed the corporation's advanced management programme at Harvard business school.

John Quantrill succeeds Ed Naegeli as director of manufacturing for the Bedford Commercial Vehicle Division, and is based at Luton. Mr Naegeli has transferred to Vauxhall Motors as director of manufacturing.

Mr Quantrill, who comes to Luton from GM's Oldsmobile Division in the USA, joined GM in 1964 as an hourly employee. After graduation from the GM Institute he held senior production positions in Ontario, first at Oshawa, then at Windsor. GENERAL MANAGER of Rentco Nationwide, following the recent promotion of John Midlane to managing director, is John Donnelly.

Mr Donnelly joined the Fruehauf Corporation subsidiary 11 years ago to work at its Liverpool branch. In 1981 he became regional manager for the South West, a position which will now be taken by Dennis Harrison, district manager at Birmingham.
