• The United Transport Co Ltd made a record group profit of £7m before tax last year, a 13 per cent increase on 1970's result. The group has, during the year, become wholly owned by BET who are already large shareholders.
Smith of Maddison's efficiency in the face of intense competition resulted in a record profit, records the chairman, Mr D. Lloyd Jones, and International Ferry Freight had a better year and is doing well in 1972. Keith and Boyle (London) Ltd made a record profit; the Bulwark United Group maintained its profits level, and Robert Wynn and Sons has been affected by the downturn in heavy machinery haulage.
The overseas companies — goods and passenger — had a generally successful year and the European forwarding and freight companies had good trade-in and are now well established.
