Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

FMX construction truck range at the Bauma construction equipment show in Munich this week, with the new models incorporating mostly the same changes made to the latest incarnation of the FM (CM 28 March).

Euro-6 engines are at the heart of the new FMX, either the 10.8-litre D11K or the 12.8-litre D13K, both updated versions of the current Euro-5 units. The smaller engine is offered in nominal ratings of 330hp, 370hp, 410hp and 450hp; the larger at 420hp, 460hp, 500hp and 540hp. Of these, the 420hp D13K is bound to hold strong appeal to 8x4 tipper operators because of its unusually wide 2,100Nm peak torque plateau, starting at just 860rpm and running up to 1,400rpm.

A huge number of chassis configurations are available, from 4x2 up to 8x6, with driven front steer-axles.

Volvo is particularly keen on the tridem layout, with axles two and three driven, followed by a positively steered fourth axle, claimed to cut the turning circle by 5m – about 25% – compared with a conventional 8x4.

Volvo is also plugging its electrically assisted dynamic steering and air-suspension on the FMX, but these remain extra options; standard suspension is steel, either simple leaf or parabolic.

The cab shell is unchanged; inside the revisions are the same as those in the FM, namely a new dashboard and new seats with a slightly thinner backrest, giving a tad more storage space between seat and bulkhead.
