E' Five drivers from Irish firms have been hit with fines

totalling almost £2,000 after they admitted a stnng of speed limiter and hours offences before the Holyhead magistrates.

Prosecuting for the Vehicle Inspectorate, Peter Edwards said that a vehicle belonging to David O'Halloran, trading as Thornfield International, of Co Laois, had been stopped in a check in November.

An inspection of the speed limiter system revealed that an additional wire had been fitted to Mat)* the limiter.

An examination of driver Ian Mayor's tachograph charts showed that he had driven for a total of 17 hours 36 minutes. He pleaded guilty to one offence of using a vehicle when the speed limiter had been interfered with, two of taking insufficient daily rest and one of exceeding the daily driving limit.

He was fined 2520 and ordered to pay .235 costs.

The same vehicle was stopped in a check in December when being driven by Harold Griffith. The tachograph charts produced showed that Griffith had driven for 10 hours 14 minutes and had not taken enough rest. In addition the speed limiter was not working.

Griffith was fined /210 and ordered to pay 235 costs. Dundalk driver Gary Dawsot pleaded guilty to one offenc( of using a vehicle when th( speed limiter had been inter fared with and two when it wa: not restricting the vehicle': speed. He was fined 2475 win 235 costs.

Co Louth driver Brenda,. Osialainn pleaded gurity to usini a vehicle when the speed limiter had been interfered with and tr using an incompatible tacho graph chart. He was fined 245( with 235 costs.

Edwards said that a vehick belonging to MMD Intemationa Logistics, of Dundalk, and driver by Osialainn had been stoppe( in the October check.

An inspection of the rear o the tachograph had revealec that the cover plate and secu rity seal were no longer it place and an extra wire ha( been added to stop the spee( limiter working.

Co Monaghan driver Jimm! Cotton from McAnealy Iran sport pleaded guilty to on( offence of using a vehicle whet the speed limiter had beer interfered with. He was finer /100 with £35 costs.
