• by Colin Barnett The UK's first new model Volvo FH12 has entered service with Holyhead-based Gwynedd Shipping Group. The FH12 420 6x2 is the first of an order for 19 identical trucks, five of which are additions to the 40-strong fleet, all running at 44 tonnes.

Gwynedd Shipping operates about 700 trailers, specialising in the Irish trade. Much of its traffic uses the new Mostyn Docks on Deeside, where the supplier of the Volvos, Thomas Hardie Commercials, has a contract to check trailers for defects caused during ferry crossings,
