Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• United Transpon has modified specialist acid tanks in its bulk chemical distribution fleet to comply with the Environmental Protection Act.

Working with its customer ICI Chlor Chemicals, the company has devised a "closed-loop" system to prevent the escape of acid fumes during loading and discharge.

Mechanical pumps are unsuitable for moving highly corrosive hydrochloric acid— the closed-loop system enables the acid to he loaded through a flanged coupling direct from the manufacturing plant to the rubber lined load barrel.

A parallel flanged coupling takes the displaced fumes from the road barrel to a storage tank avoiding any contact with the atmosphere.

The reverse takes place at the delivery point where the displaced fumes are taken back on board the road barrel and returned to the manufacturing plant.
