• The European Commission has launched an investigation into claims that government funds have been paid to Italian hauliers. But the Italians say the Commission has "misunderstood" their programme, which is designed to restructure the haulage sector.
It includes grants to help hauliers buy replacement vehicles and financial aid through the social security system for workers re-training.
