• Pan-European trailer operator Cargo Care is adding 100 high volume TER tilt trailers to its 650-strong fleet in an order being shared by Van Hool and Krone.

The trailers, exhibited at the Brussels show in January, will ferry freight between Britain and the Continent.

The 13.62m-long, 2.46m-wide Mega concept trailer was developed by the two manufacturers working with MAN and Scania. It offers a full 3.0m internal height

together with 100m3 of load space. It can also carry up to 23.5 tonnes on UK operations.

The extra volume is achieved by reducing the height of the chassis beams over the SAF air-sprung triaxles so that with 19.5in wheels, the lower load deck gives a full 3.0m inner height. When coupled to tractors with 950mm-high fifth wheels it meets the 4.0m Continental height limit.

For the UK side of its contract Cargo Care International of Colchester has nearly 40 hauliers on its books to provide prime movers. New contracts involving Mega trailers will require tractors with fifth wheels set at 1,150mm.
