• Last week's launch of York's ninth-generation Freightmaster 2000 van body comes in a year in which York plans to build over 2,700 trailers and become the UK's leading producer with 30% of the total market.
According to managing director Jim Davies (left), production of frameless aluminium and GRP vans will hit the 1,500 mark this year. Already York has advance orders for 1,000 of these, and 370 Freightmaster 2000 vans. Other trailer developments include increased work on drawbars, largely in concert with its own group specialist, Abel Demountable Systems.
York is claiming second place in the reefer market, with 140 Thermostars built since their launch a year ago. Rigid versions will be added to the range by July.
Last year's growth in body building within York's parent, the Bunzl Transportation group included the acquisition of security and municipal truck specialist Glover Webb and of tipper manufacturer Neville Charrold.
The acquisitions have resulted in a monthly business total of £1.3 million. York's regional branch structure will be strengthened later this year by four new service centres in Bristol, Ipswich, east Yorkshire and east London.
