Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Worldwide parcels carrier Federal Express now carrys more than a million parcels a day compared with 10,000 when it was formed in 1974.

The worldwide figure of 1,018,165 parcels includes 101,165 in the UK handled by Federal Express (UK). Group managing director of the UK division, Colin Millbanks, says that the average service level in the UK is running at 99.91% — higher than in the USA.

"We foresee considerable growth for the company," says Millbanks, "and over the next 12 months we are planning to open additional strategicallysited depots in the North West, East Midlands and South East to handle the planned increase in package volume."

Millbanks says that Federal Express will soon be introducing "innovative" new services and plans to create 600 additional jobs in the company's Priority Services Division.

LiFederal Express Systemline has won the contract to provide same-day collection and delivery services for British Telecom's new Boulevard Teleshopping service. Systemline operates three liveried Transit vans on the contract throughout the Home Counties. Goods for delivery elsewhere are shipped via the Federal Express Priority Services parcels network for delivery the following day.
