A useful and simple safety feature of the Ford was the fitting of a reversing warning bleeper set off by pushing a large rubber stop on the dash. It worked extremely well and people certainly took note of it.
The tipper was fitted with the latest version park brake; spring brakes are now standard, and the short on/off park lever between the driver and passenger seat is a vast improvement over the former pull and twist lever which used to be mounted in the dash of vehicles fitted with lock actuators.
The six-speed gearbox had a well-defined gate pattern and except for reverse all the gears could be selected without excessive effort. A heavy bias away from reverse could be overcome by a deliberate shove for clean engagement.
