Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

DUNLOP is considering whether to offer a commercial vehicle version of the Denovo safety tyre which is already available for cars. The Denovo cover contains a canister of special fluid which seals the tyre in the event of a puncture and allows the vehicle to run for a considerable distance at reduced speed quite safely.

Although technical problems for trucks would be different from those already solved for car applications, Dunlop believes that the true cost of punctures and resultant delays could make the Denovo an economic proposition for freight operators. Market research is planned to see whether demand matches the assumptions.

Meanwhile the company has had encouraging response from vehicle manufacturers to its proposals for fitting the 70series low-profile radials as original equipment on commercial vehicles. At a meeting in London last week Dunlap technicians explained that, as well as a lower platform height and reduced steering effort, the low-profile 70 tyre offered a fuel saving because its rolling resistance was lower. The tyre and wheel assembly are also lighter than current conventional truck units.
