Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A NEW tipper trailer with greatly improved stability, when tipped, has been introduced by Crane Fruehauf Trailers Ltd. Designated the DA/ ND/32 F3M, the trailer is designed to be operated with either two or three-axled tractive units at 32 tons gtw. Capacities of up to 34,4cum (45cuyd) are obtainable while a payload of approximately 22.3 tonnes (22 tons) is possible.

Tests made with the fully laden trailer have shown that it is stable, when tipped, on a 7ideg slope. To achieve this the track has been increased by 5.08cm (2in) to 188cm (74in) and this has also enabled the spring centres of the CF suspension units to be increased. The axles are of Rubery Owen manufacture. In addition, torsional stiffness is increased by installing rectangular hollow section cross-members into the chassis above •the suspension.

The weight of the unladen trailer is about 152kg (3cwt) lower than the models it replaces and this has been achieved by having shallower side-members. The side-members, constructed from steel I-beam, have the main function of providing torsional stiffness rather than direct loading, which is taken by the tipper body itself, The body is constructed from alloy (steel as an option) and incorporates a single five-stage hydraulic ram. Tipping angle for an 8.4m body is 45deg.
