PRODUCTION of the Chrysler Commer Commando truck range has been reduced because of a shortage of diesel engines from Perkins Ltd. This means that Chrysler UK, which planned to increase output from the middle of this month from 280 to 345 trucks a week in built-up and ckd form, will cut production at Dunstable to 256 commercial vehicles a week.
During this month and in May and June Perkins will not be able to cope with demand for its engines. Chrysler UK plans to substitute engines from its other supplier, Mercedes, but Perkins will still supply over 90 per cent of its requirements.
