CANADIAN—U.S. ROAD TALKS

DISCUSSIONS are taking place between United States and Ontario Province road transport officials on possible regulations under which hauliers on either side of the international boundary may use highways running through Canada or the U.S.A. Permission to use the Ontario roads was granted to the Americans during the war, but was discontinued afterwards. 'Three years ago, the Canadian Federal Government signed a treaty to allow American vehicles to use the Dominion's roads, but Ontario Province has not yet agreed to this arrangement.

Concern has been expressed about the possible damage American vehicles would do to the Province's roads, because the American axle-weight limits are higher than those in force in Ontario.
