• Hauliers' associations have joined the call for improvements to roads to and from London's Docklands — criticised as being "totally inadequate to meet the area's growing needs" by the Confederation of British Industry last week.
The Road Haulage Association and the Freight Transport Association say there are bottlenecks and "enormous gaps" in the road network leading to the development area, where a new airport opens next month.
John Guttridge, South East director of the FM, has asked for a total strategic road plan to be drawn up for the whole area, linking roads within the Docldands with connecting routes through London.
