• Skoda, the East European car manufacturer, has announced details of a new vehicle which it plans to launch in Britain, both in car and van form.
The vehicle is a new, frontwheel-drive design, powered by a 1,300cc engine, partly designed by Porsche. Bertone of Turin styled the vehicle, which is due to be built in Czechoslovakia using a substantial number of British machine tools and components.
It is expected that Skoda will offer larger capacity engines in van versions.
Skoda says the first year's production is earmarked for the domestic market and righthand-drive models may not be available in the UK until 1990.
