DEWSBURY Bus Station has been judged the country's bestkept bus and coach station. It beat 51 other bus stations in the first such competition organised by the Bus and Coach Council and sponsored by the National Bus Company.
A winner's plaque was presented at the BCC annual conference in Southampton this week by BCC president Bill Lewis and National Bus chairman Lord Shepherd. There to receive it was West Yorkshire PTE director general Bill Cottham and Councillor Wayne Jenkins from West Yorkshire County Council.
Dewsbury Bus Station is relatively small, accommodating 22 buses and four coaches and is four years old. The local authority (Kirklees Metropolitan Council) architect designed the station for WYPTE. It was highly rated in the competition for its cleanliness, good passenger information, helpful staff and ease of use by disabled people.
Second place went to Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow.
