Next Thursday is party night at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London. On the eve of the Commercial Motor Show — or the day we call press day — there's a Showbiz Ball. It's described as "a rollicking knees-up," whatever that is.
Over 1,000 are expected to attend — I'm to be among them "to enjoy plenty of cockney cheer including jellied eels." Ugh! I'm sure my aged and over-worked combustion chamber won't be able to cope. Even more disturbing is the likely strain on my fuel pump when "the exuberant young dancers of New Edition" start jumping about, and whether my traction tread training shoes have enough tread pattern left or not I can't see the suspension standing the flexing till I am.
Still, it's all in a good cause as all the profits go to the National Society for Mentally Handicapped Children. If you want to help, phone Molly McKellar on 01-381 0377 or 01-602 5477.
