—RE announce this week a

newcomer

new vehicle for operation at weights up to 57,000kg gcw. The 57C3 is designed for worldwide use.

It is a 6 x 4 and is fitted with the new B-Series sleeper cab. ERF has recognised that most of the vehicle's life will be spent outside the UK and designed it for left-hand steer, although a right-hand steer version is available.

ERF says that the vehicle design was the result of requests by European operators for a heavy-duty threeaxle tractive unit, It is powered by a Cummins turbocharged NTCE 350 diesel engine through a 13-speed gearbox and double-drive rear axles. The Cummins engine is the largest yet fitted to a standard production vehicle at ERF.

The heavy-duty rear bogie incorporates a Hendrickson type RT 380 suspension in conjunction with Kirkstall axles. Although Hendrickson suspension units have been used by ERE in vehciles for worldwide application for a number of years, this is the first time that Kirkstall axles have been incorporated and the first time this suspension has been offered' as standard equipment in Europe.

The new cab has one bunk as standard and another as an option with the whole cab mounted on steel sub-frames with a hydraulic tilt mechanism.

Trimmings inside include coat hooks, ash tray, rubber floor overlay, and glove box. The new cab also has tachograph as standard.

Flashing warning lights for serious malfunctions warning drivers to stop and investigate are a feature with the curtains and reading lamps, internal power point and engine cover quilt.
