Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Vauxhall Motors Ltd has announced engine, gearbox and back-axle changes to its HA range of Bedford light vans, for 1972.

Increased engine capacity, from 1159 cc to 1256 cc, and changed carburetter settings have increased the power by 7 bhp to 39.2 bhp at 4600 rpm, and torque is also up from 51 lb ft to 57.6 lb ft. A seven-blade assymetric fan is now fitted and this, it is claimed, reduces the engine noise level.

Modifications to the transmission include, for the gearbox, increased mainshaft diameter, improved lubrication for the firstspeed mainshaft gear, and quieter operation is helped by a new tooth form for the second speed gears. The back axle is now fitted with new differential side-gears and pinions and the differential case has also been strengthened.

Recommended prices for the vans, which are already in production, are: 6cwt, £591; 8cwt, £621.
