Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

unit made by Stellar Components Ltd.. introduced in collaboration with the Road Research Laboratory. This unit gives an additional low-glare beam (claimed to be about one-tenth the intensity of the normal dipped beam) for use as minimum lighting for a moving vehicle in well-lighted streets.

The makers say that this headlight dimmer, while increasing visibility for pedestrians, eliminates possible dazzle effects from the use of normal dipped beam headlights.

The dimmer is automatic—the dipped beam comes on whenever the sidelight and ignition switches are both turned on— no additional switch being required. When the ignition switch is turned off this extinguishes the dimmed lights, leaving the parking lights switched on. The normal dipped beam and the main beam are switched on in the usual way.

A fitting kit, consisting of correct specification colour-coded wires and all necessary snap-on connectors, is available as an optional extra.

An electronic version of this dimmer unit is expected to be introduced later this year.
