Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

'HE TS3 three-cylindered two-stroke oil engine is now available in the .mmer 5-ton and 7-ton models and Karrier Gamecock 3-4-tonner. This ws is released today by the Rootes oup and will be welcomed by all nators who have studied the quiet ming and economical and lively per-mance of this unit.

Ile engine has direct injection and posed pistons which act on a single nkshaft through rocking levers. The inder porting is• based on the denacy principle and a Roots-type twer is fitted to .assist scavenging. wer output is 105 b.h.p. at 2,400 .m. and the maximum torque is ) lb.-ft. at 1,200 r.p.m.

Ile power output of this unit has It raised by 15 b.h.p., with an rease of 20 lb.-ft. torque, since its roduction in May of this year. This resulted in the need for a heavier rbox and rear axle. The maximum inc speed remains unaltered, the reased power being derived from the 1-pump setting. When used in the Gamecock chassis, the TS3 is derated to develop 75 b.h.p. and 209 lb.-ft. torque.

Because of its low height and short length, the TS3 is particularly suitable for mounting under the cab floor, as in the Commer goods vehicles. In addition to improving economy, it should give at least the same road performance as the alternative 109 b.h.p. petrol engine.

With the introduction of a new four speed synchromesh gearbox for the heavier vehicles, all Commer chassis now have synchromesh boxes. 'The latest unit has helical constant-mesh gears which are engaged by involutespline dog clutches. Synchronization is by inertia-lock rings. There is provision for fitting a power-take-off to either side of the gearbox. The Karrier Gamecock also has this gearbox.

A new rear axle, with a stouter case, is specified for both ranges. The frictional area of the rear brake facings is increased by 62 sq. in. when the axle is fitted to the oil-engined 7-ton series.

An improved tipping gear has been designed for Superpoise 5-ton vehicles. With this gear the body can be held at any angle of tip.

A long-wheelbase version of the Karrier Bantam has been introduced, the additional 2 ft. proving useful for vans and mobile shops.
