• An LGV driver brushing his teeth at the wheel is one of several pieces of video footage released by police to demonstrate the dangers of being distracted at the wheel. The five-day operation by Hampshire constabulary, which relied on officers using a video camera in an unmarked Scania, led to 227 offences being detected among motorists.
• Hauliers who regularly use the Humber Bridge near Hull are being told to expect delays for up to 40 weeks for maintenance. The 0.9m project, expected to begin on 28 October, will see the closure of the nearside lane in both directions to allow four steel A-frames to be replaced.
• Gloucestershire-based William Gilder has won permission to relocate its base from Toddington to a planned truckstop development near Tewkesbury. The haulier was granted permission to develop a 50-space overnight truckstop last year, but lodged another application to run its own vehicles and operations from the same site in February.
