Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• An LGV driver training body with a membership of more than 800 qualified instructors is at the centre of a fraud squad investigation.

Two arrests have already been made following last month's raid by West Mercia Fraud Squad and officials from the Departments of Education and Employment on the offices of Centrex, the training arm of RTITB Services.

On 10 September, 20 officers investigating alleged irregulari ties in Government funding for National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) searched Centrex offices in Telford, Morley and Livingstone.

The RTITB is a registered charity and awarding body for NVQ qualifications in the motor industry. Centrex provides courses for LGV training instructors. The Driving Standards Agency has recommended that RTITB-qualified instructors be given automatic entry on to its voluntary regis ter of instructors (see page 11).

Detective Inspector John Parkinson, head of West Mercia Fraud Squad, says the fraud involved could be in excess of Lim and the investigation could last a year.

Centrex believes the investigation is focused on its Morley office: it suspended an employee on full pay in February while it looked into allegations of maladministration. "We have been co-operating fully with the police," says a spokesman.
