• North Yorkshire haulier Flowers of York is expected to be saved from the receiver by a management buyout this week.
Three former employees were hoping to clinch the deal as CM went to press.
General manager Ian Craig, company accountant Derek Walker and commercial manager Mike Kaye have pooled resources to buy the firm, which has been privately owned since it was bought from the Transport Development Group subsidiary Harris Distribution in January last year.
The £1.5m-turnover distribution, storage, vehicle rental and repair company has been operating with half of its 72strong workforce since it called in the receiver, Touche Ross, last June (CM 20-26 June).
The new directors will take over the York freehold site, which includes 8,918m2 of warehouse, 35 trucks, 23 trailers and the goodwill of the firm, which boasts contracts with bluechip firms such as fuel giant BP, household plastics manufacturer Addis and York-based confectioner Rowntree Mackintosh.
