• The European Community has struck a deal with Austria and Switzerland over transit rights for trucks.
Details will not be released until later this month at the Transport Council of Ministers meeting in Luxembourg, but of ficials are calling it an "equitable compromise".
It is understood that Switzerland will allow a number of 38 and 40-tonne lorries to pass through the country.
Switzerland currently bans trucks over 28 tonnes.
