Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Scania will be bringing a version of its single-deck citybus N113 chassis with a lower front floor to the UK.

The modified chassis has a boarding height of 350mm which extends two-thirds of the way to the rear — the standard N113 citybus chassis has a boarding height of just over 600mm.

The low-floor chassis has so far been available only with lefthand drive for Scandinavian operators. But Scania says it should be available with righthand drive for the UK in the next five years, depending on legislation and the economy.

The lower-floor option could cost 50% more than a standard citybus.

Scania showed the lower-floor chassis at the UITP show at Stockholm last June, fitted with the DSC11-27 environmentally friendly engine which meets Euro Two Emission requirements. It was exhibited with bodywork from Finnish bodybuilder Wiima.

Integral bodywork is needed for the chassis as the strength of the vehicle comes equally from the body and chassis.

Scania originally brought the N113 to the UK in June 1988. It says the modified chassis will be ideal for urban stage carriage work and for airport work.
