• A Northumberland-based haulage consortium is poised to go national after a CM profile led to a spate of enquiries from owner-drivers (CM 8-14 Aug).

Blyth Independent Transport Services, based at Blyth, was formed in June by three ownerdrivers, Dave Foreshaw, George Hall and Kevin Davison.

The CM feature resulted in enquiries from "Arbroath to Devon", says Foreshaw.

Owner-drivers will not have to pay anything to register for work with BITS, but customers will be charged a £10 administration fee per load.

Three new members have joined the consortium: Ron Moulton and Ian Holtam, trading as R&I Electrical, will offer electrical maintenance and repair; and Paul Bohills, trading as Bumpers, will offer a breakdown service.

Rates will be "extremely competitive", says Foreshaw.
