The 11,000 employees turned down a three-part offer: a lump sum of elso in December: 4% on basic wages in January, and a further 2,60 in June.

The Union of Communication Workers had recommended rejection, with general secretary Alan Tuffin saying the money on the table was "simply not good enough".

The UCW says a meeting with Parcelforce is likely within the next few days to see if negotiations can be reopened.
