Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

STRONG opposition is to be offered in the Irish House of Commons to the proposal of Coras Iompair Eireann to restrict lorries of over 2 tons unladen weight to a radius of 20 miles. According to "The Irish Times," there has been a "unanimity of protest" and it is believed that this suggestion, if carried into effect, would result in much unemployment.

In addition to these proposals, hauliers in Ireland are also facing heavy increases in vehicle taxation from next January. The effect of the two moves would, it is said, be to drive private hauliers off the road, and so put the entire transport field in Ireland in the hands of C.I.E.

At the annual general meeting of .the Irish Licensed Hauliers, last week, the president, Mr. D. Hayes, said that operators had never been faced with greater difficulties. The meeting decided to send a deputation to the Minister for Industry and Commerce.
