• A firm of accountants has )een brought in to look at the inances of the municipallywined Welsh bus firm Inter /alley Link.

According to Rhynuiey Valey District Council, which preiously controlled IVL's operaions, rival bus operator iational Welsh is now inerested in taking over the :ompany.

Last week, however, IVL vas successful in adding 17 'elides to its PSV operating cence when South Wales trafLc commissioner John Mervyn 'ugh was satisfied with the ompany's new maintenance ystern.

The company first appeared efore the Commissioner in ktober, when consideration of isciplinary action against the ompany's existing 64-vehicle cence, together with its aplication for additional vehicles, as adjourned. The operator ad been called to public inuiry because of the number of rohibitions issued to its vehiles during September.

Mervyn Pugh was told that le additional vehicles were reuired to enable the company ) increase midibus operation the Rhymney Valley. It ppreciated the concern over ie prohibition notices and arrangements had been made for the midibuses to be maintained by BRS (Western).

Chief engineer John Whitworth said there were now two flow charts in operation, one showing forward planned maintenance and the other operational. The system had been discussed and agreed with the DTp's district manager. Further offers from the DTp had been taken up for the company's inspection staff to visit the test station and for a senior vehicle examiner to visit the premises to show key staff how driver inspections should be carried out.

Letters had been written to the company's drivers and daily nil reporting duplicate books had been issued.

Managing director Haydn Williams said that the system had cost a lot to finance but he could see merit in the scheme.

Taking no action, and granting the additional vehicles, Mervyn Pugh said that if operators in south Wales put into effect the maintenance policy that they had evolved they would find that it was almost impossible for a vehicle to attract a prohibition notice for poor maintenance. He thanked Inter Valley Link for its cooperation.
